  229. UNICOM 3 corrects the following problems 
  230. found in UNICOM 2.0c:

  233. FIXED: UAE error related to color operation
  234. FIXED: Occasional lock-up on program close
  235. FIXED: Host mode modem no answer (2.0c fixed that)
  236. FIXED: YMODEM-G unreliable or didn't work
  237. FIXED: Printer Logging - just didn't work
  238. FIXED: Occasional screen line missing or drawn 
  239.        in the wrong row.
  240. FIXED: Utility Menu passing parameters (it didn't)
  241. FIXED: Script run command now accepts dos apps
  242. FIXED: Slow ASCII Transfer throughput
  243. FIXED: Slow KERMIT Transfer throughput
  244. FIXED: Font size selection window too small
  245. FIXED: Chat mode losing or not recognizing characters
  246. FIXED: All ANSI escape codes were not recognized

  259. & Upgrade Information for 2.0x Users
  260.  
  261. UNICOM 3.0 Upgrade announcents were mailed to all
  262. registered 2.0x users on 8/19/91.  If you did not
  263. receive your notice, use the order form provided
  264. with this distribution.  The same special upgrade
  265. pricing is listed in this form.

  267. & UNICOM 3.0 Release Notes
  268.  
  269. 1) The VT102 special fonts may not be available when
  270.    using herc monochrome video mode -OR- if UNICOM
  271.    cannot reference a configuration file at
  272.    startup.
  273.  
  274. 2) The Microsoft 3.0 serial driver becomes unreliable
  275.    above 9600 baud.  If you switch to another
  276.    application that references a drive during
  277.    a file transfer, UNICOM may report CRC errors.
  278.    If your version of Windows does not correct this
  279.    problem, investigate TurboComm from BioEngineering.
  280.    It is an alternative port driver that supports
  281.    the 16550 and higher baud rates.
  282.  
  283.  
  284. 3) Screen Savers and UNICOM seem to dislike each other.
  285.    UNICOM may not be able to paint it's screen properly
  286.    when these kick in.  You should disable any screen
  287.    saver when performing data transfers since it will
  288.    likely affect performance. It is suggested that you
  289.    set the screen saver idle detection time to a that
  290.    greater that the expected file transfer time.
  291.  
  292.  
  293. 4) Dialing directory file sizes cannot exceed 64k.
  294.    If UNICOM complains of low memory when loading
  295.    a directory, break up the directory into 
  296.    smaller directory files.
  297.  
  298. 5) Interrupt driven receive queue size is 
  299.    24k if using standard or enhanced mode and
  300.    12k if running in real mode.  The queue size
  301.    was reduced for real mode due to memory
  302.    restrictions.
  303.  
  304. 6) Script Commands
  305.  
  306.    FileLength:  The example for this command is incorrectly
  307.    listed in the manual:  lSize = FileSize("messages.dat")
  308.    It should read: lSize = FileLength("messages.dat");
  309.    This appears correct in the online help.
  310.  
  311.  
  312.    StrIsHex: is described incorrectly in the manual.
  313.    It incorrectly states that chars A-Z or a-z are
  314.    valid hex characters.  It should read 'A'-'F' and
  315.    'a'-'f' in addition to 0-9.
  316.  
  317. 7) Fonts
  318.  
  319.    Type managers let you add many fonts to Windows.
  320.    UNICOM cannot handle more than 38 fonts and
  321.    20 sizes of each.  If you reach this limit,
  322.    VT102 special fonts will not be available
  323.    in UNICOM.
  324.  
  325. 8) Host Mode - Shell To DOS
  326.  
  327.    Your computer must be operating in 386 enhanced mode
  328.    to support this feature.  
  329.  
  330.               IMPORTANT 
  331.     
  332.    Make sure the communication port device contention 
  333.    is set to "Never Warn" in the 386 enhanced
  334.    section of the control panel.  If this is not
  335.    done, a message box will be displayed to the
  336.    host computer screen anytime the remote user
  337.    shells to DOS.  This will lock the host unless
  338.    someone is available to reply to the message
  339.    box.

  342. & Character Translation Tables
  343.  
  344. UNICOM supports character translation for incoming
  345. and outgoing characters.  When you save your setup
  346. with the Save Setup menu pick, UNICOM writes the
  347. contents of the current translation tables to the
  348. file UNICOM.XLT.
  349.  
  350. Upon each program start, UNICOM looks for this file
  351. (UNICOM.XLT). If found, its contents are loaded into
  352. memory. 
  353.  
  354. Foreign language users:  Please send the translation
  355. file you construct for your language to Data Graphics
  356. so it may be included in future releases.  
  357.  
  358.  
  359. & Host User database
  360.  
  361. The file hostuser.dat contains user information for
  362. those authorized to access your machine via host mode.
  363. This file may be changed or altered by remote users 
  364. with the appropriate access level.  You may wish to 
  365. make this file read only and/or hidden with the dos
  366. attrib command. Hostuser.dat is updated when you
  367. select save setup from the setup menu.

  382. & Converting your 2.0 Dial Directory to 3.0
  383.  
  384. UNICOM 3.0 will convert your old 2.0 directory
  385. to the new 3.0 format.  Just load it in by
  386. activating the directory, then save it.
  387. Editing and saving a 2.0 directory before 
  388. doing so could cause corrupt entries to appear.
  389.  
  390. The conversion process enlarges the file size.
  391. Be careful not to exceed 64k.  If so, break up
  392. the directory into multiple smaller directories.

  399. The many great suggestions I have received from
  400. those who took the time to call are now implemented
  401. in this version.  Much credit goes to the many
  402. of you who registered UNICOM 1 and 2. Because of
  403. your registrations, this slick new version has become
  404. a reality.
